Danish artist Kay Nielsen’s stunning 1914 illustrations of Scandinavian fairy tales

The Lagoon Nebula is a giant interstellar cloud located approximately 4,000-6,000 light years from Earth. Discovered in the constellation Sagittarius in 1747 by Guillaume Le Gentil, it is one of only two star forming nebula visible from the Northern Hemisphere. The word and name lagoon comes from the Latin word lacuna meaning a lake or pond, occasionally even hole. It arrived in English in the 1610s from the Italian word laguna. Originally the word referred to the region around Venice. Captain Cooke is credited with using the word outside of Venice, when in 1769 he used the word to describe a lagoon in a south seas atoll.

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

I always love how so much is contained within small areas of colour. (She has only just gotten started on Tumblr so I would love to see her work getting out there a little more!)
